How to run a trivia game in a WhatsApp group with AI
Add Cole to the WhatsApp group and ask: "Cole, give us a film trivia question." Cole posts one question; people answer by replying to Cole's message or calling it by name, and Cole tells each person whether they got it right. Ask for the next question when the group is ready, or have Cole post one every Friday evening.

How a round works
01
Ask for a question
Cole, give us one music trivia question about the 90s. Cole posts one question and stops there.
02
Answer so Cole sees it
Reply to Cole's question message, or start your answer with Cole's name, such as "Cole, it's Paris". Cole only replies when someone tags it, calls it by name or replies to it, so other answers may not reach it.
03
Cole checks it
Cole tells you whether the answer is right. When the group gives up, ask Cole, what's the answer?
04
Next question
Ask for another when the group is ready. Cole does not keep going on its own: a game goes on when someone asks for more.
Ideas for a group quiz
Weekly quiz night
"Cole, every Friday at 8pm post one film trivia question here."
Multiple choice
"Cole, a geography question with four options."
Harder or easier
"Cole, make the next one harder."
Explain it
"Cole, explain the answer in two sentences."
A theme
"Cole, a football trivia question."
Another language
"Cole, ask the next question in Portuguese."
A weekly question is a repeating request. Starting or stopping a repeating request in a group needs someone from the account that pays for Cole there, unless that account allows everyone. To remind people that the quiz starts, use a reminder: see a reminder bot for your WhatsApp group.
Keeping score
Cole has no built-in scoreboard. For a casual game, ask at the end: "Cole, who got the most answers right tonight?" Cole answers from the messages it has kept in the group, so this works for one evening's game rather than a season-long league. For a league, keep the score yourself and post it in the group.
What it costs
Each question Cole posts and each answer it checks is a reply, and replies use credits from the account that pays for Cole in the group. A long game uses credits faster, which is why Cole asks one question at a time and waits to be asked for the next. Cole is free to start with 150 one-time credits, and paid plans start at $19 a month for 2,000 credits.
House rules
Calmer group: "Cole, from now on only answer when someone asks you a question."
A nickname: give Cole a name your group likes, and it answers to that name too.
Off switch: the account that pays can turn Cole off in one group from its private chat with Cole.
To remove Cole, remove it like any other participant. Cole never leaves a group on its own.
Create a free Pocodot account and choose WhatsApp. The dashboard opens WhatsApp with a one-time code already typed; send it to Cole and Cole replies in your private chat.
02
Add Cole's number to the group
Add the same Cole number you just messaged as a participant, the way you add anyone. Cole cannot join from an invite link, and it cannot see messages from before it joined.
03
Tag Cole once from your number
Send @Cole hi in the group from the WhatsApp number on your account. Cole answers from your own credits, then asks you once, in your private chat, whether your account should pay for everyone in the group. Say yes, and everyone in the group can ask Cole. Nobody becomes the payer without saying yes.
Pocodot makes Cole, an AI assistant you add to WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram, LINE and Slack, including group chats. Cole handles reminders, email, calendar, research and calls, in private chats and group chats.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a trivia bot for WhatsApp groups?
Cole can host trivia in a WhatsApp group. Add Cole's number to the group, then ask "Cole, give us a film trivia question." Cole posts one question, checks answers that reply to it or call it by name, and posts the next question when someone asks.
How do players answer so the bot sees it?
Reply to Cole's question message, or start the answer with Cole's name. Messages that do neither may not reach Cole, because Cole only replies when someone tags it, calls it by name or replies to it.
Can Cole post a trivia question every week?
Yes. Ask "Cole, every Friday at 8pm post one film trivia question here." Starting a repeating request needs someone from the account that pays for Cole in the group, unless that account allows everyone.
Does Cole keep score?
There is no built-in scoreboard. At the end of a game, ask "Cole, who got the most right tonight?" and Cole answers from the group's messages. For a long-running league, keep the score yourself.
Does a trivia game cost credits?
Yes. Each question and each answer Cole checks is a reply that uses credits from the account that pays for Cole in the group. Cole is free to start with 150 one-time credits, and paid plans start at $19 a month for 2,000 credits.
